The Harrison County Board of Education has become aware of a prank call sent to the Harrison County 911 Center at approximately 8:44 am on December 7, 2022. The unidentified caller stated that students were shot at Robert C. Byrd High School in Clarksburg. At that time, the school was put on a precautionary Code Yellow.
The Clarksburg Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, and the West Virginia State Police responded to the school immediately and, within minutes, made access to the school, cleared the school for any potential threats, and the situation was deemed not to be a non-credible call. The school was then put back to a Code Green: All Clear.
We have been informed that the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a follow-up investigation with the West Virginia Fusion Center and the FBI to investigate the call's origin.
Out of an abundance of caution, there will be extra patrols at our schools periodically throughout the week.
