Morgantown (September, 27th 2024) – For the third time in the past five years the South Harrison FFA’s Nursery/Landscape Evaluation and Management Team earned the state title at the Fall Career Development Events held at the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture. The team was led by brothers K.J. and Nathaniel Linger- who placed third and fourth individually in the competition, other members were Penelope Blake and Owen Baker. The team will represent West Virginia at the National Contest in October of 2025.
The livestock judging team after claiming championships at the Meigs County Fair and Chief Cornstalk Invitational Livestock Judging Competitions fell just short of obtaining the 2024 state title behind the team from Spring Mills. Members Delainey Lowther and Elena Medina both received top ten individual honors with Lowther placing third and Medina rounding out the top ten. Other members were sophomores Adam Marple and Neveah Hayhurst.
The Senior Livestock Judging Team competed earlier in the Fall at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts. The 18 State Regional Event is held in conjunction with the Big E Livestock Show. The team placed third with member Emma Hitt placing 9th Individual. Other team members are Hope Woods, Spencer Nolan, and Alivia Baker. The team will compete at the National FFA Contest in October in Indianapolis Indiana.
Through Career and Leadership Development Events, participating FFA members in grades 7 to 12 are challenged to develop critical thinking skills and effective decision-making skills, foster teamwork and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement. CDE and LDE events occur at the local, state and national levels.
