Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Dr. Jamie Looker, Ex-Officio Member, at 3:30 PM.

Elections:

  • Kim Miller was elected Chair of the LSIC.

  • Laurie Meighen was elected Vice Chair.

  • Tom Myers was elected Secretary.
    All positions were unopposed and unanimously voted for. The meeting was then handed over to Kim Miller, the new LSIC Chair.

Old Business:

  • No old business.

New Business:

  • Principal’s update: Dr. Looker reported that the school year had started off well.

  • Liberty/RCB Transition Update: A joint committee from RCB and Liberty High Schools will meet on September 18 to discuss the future transition of faculty and staff. Administrators from both schools are building relationships with faculty in preparation for the merger. While details are not finalized, proposals have been submitted to the county office regarding transitions.

    • Plans for the transition are underway, including pre-registration for students to aid in scheduling for next year, which will likely include a hybrid schedule of traditional and block periods to accommodate three lunch periods.

WINS! (Positive Updates):

  • AP Government: Mr. Greg Philips reported that last year’s AP Government test scores were above the global average, with four students scoring a “5” (the highest possible score) and no student receiving a “1” (the lowest score).

  • AP Art & Design: Mrs. Katy Crim reported a 100% pass rate (scores of “3” or higher) for the AP Art & Design exam, and Taylor Arnett won the Cultural Foundation Scholarship, which is renewable for $1000 annually.

  • T-Mobile Contest: Mrs. Kelly Light, Assistant Principal, announced that RCB won $5000 in a T-Mobile contest and is now competing for $25,000, with the possibility of a $2 million award. Yard signs are displayed, and the school and community are encouraged to participate.

LSIC Policy/Training:

  • Training for all members was conducted by Dr. Looker.

  • The meeting was adjourned by a motion from Amy Young, seconded by Heather Bowen.

  • The next LSIC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 3:30 PM in the Erma Byrd Room.
