Nutter Fort Primary was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.

Art teacher Natalie Quillin, who was responsible for writing the grant, included many activities for the primary students. The first project was a STEAM program held after school for second grade students.

“Students spent eight days working on many fun STEAM activities such as making animal masks, tie-dye, and bird feeders,” said Quillin.

In addition, students worked together with artist Bernie Wilke to design and begin painting a mural for the Secret Garden area of the school. The second project was a visit from the owner of Mountain Creative. Each student in grades K-2 made a clay ornament.

The final event was a visit from Carnegie Science Center. During the assembly, students learned about science and the animal world.
