March Mania

“The President’s Own” Marine Band hosts its annual “Sousa’s March Mania,” a tournament pitting 32 musical marches against each other for voters to decide which one will be crowned the year’s champion march. Every weekday marches compete head-to-head while  friends and fans vote for marches to advance in the tournament. Some of our Band students completed their own tournament brackets and we were able to crown two March Mania Kings based on the results. Brycen Gawthrop (6th grade) and Avery Leach (7th grade) were named the 2024 March Kings.

Student Physicals Reminder

The WV Secondary Schools Athletic Commission (SSAC) requires all students who participate in extra-curricular activities to have a student physical form on file each school year. Students may complete their physicals for the following school year beginning May 1. All Band students entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grades next year need to have a completed physical in order to participate in any extracurricular Band events. Once completed, the form is good for all extra-curricular activities. Students can visit their primary care physician or any local health care provider to have their physical completed. The Community Care at BMS (open every Monday) is another convenient option. Students may pick up a physical form from Mr. Hayslette in the Band Room or you can download a form from the WVSSAC website: https://www.wvssac.org

BMS Summer Band

With several activities coming up early in the school year next fall, we will be hosting “Summer Band” starting July 29 from 8:00 am-11: 30 am. The camp will run through Friday, August 2. Band students who will be entering the 7th or 8th grade next fall are eligible and should plan to attend. We will be working on music and learning to move and play our instruments in order to participate more in Bridgeport community events next fall. There will be additional staff members to work with the students in sections and we will take some time out for some fun activities as well. The students will present a performance at the end of the week to showcase our progress.

Participation in the Summer Band Camp program is open to any band student advancing to 7th or 8th grade.

A public performance is on Friday at 11:30 AM.
