8th grade Science Teachers, Amy Hamrick, Angela Ward, and Jason Haynes at Mountaineer Middle have created a lab activity where the students will be discussing the scientific differences of some of the various apple varieties, and the process of peeling the apples, preparing them for apple sauce and eventually apple butter in crock pots.
Each science class will be responsible for finding a recipe to use, peeling/coring/slicing the apples, and combining ingredients to be cooked down.
Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow. Parent Teacher Conferences start at 4 and end at 6 pm.
A quick reminder that there will be no school Monday, October 18th. Staff will still report for Professional Learning Day. Parent-Teacher Conferences are also Monday.
Students in Ms. Ward’s 8th grade science class tested their breakfast for the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats with indicators. Students will learn about these indicators now to lay the foundation for high school classes.
Washington Irving and Mountaineer Middle Schools battled today in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game!

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Beginning today 9/13, we will require a quarantine note from a health professional for your child when you request homework for them. Once we have the note, we will alert teachers and you can pick up their work the day after your request. Do not email the teachers directly for homework assignments.
Quarantine absences will be considered unexcused unless they have a note from a health professional. Parent notes will be accepted as well but only for 5 days in each semester.
Thanks for helping us make our school year as normal as possible and making our school a great place for students.
John P. Rogers
Principal

STEAM at MMS
These are just a few pictures taken from classrooms at MMS this week. The theme is STEAM. Pictures are of students from Science, Technology, the Arts, and Math class. Great things are happening the first week of school at MMS.
Harrison County Schools has become aware of an announcement circulating that our District is closed next week.
This is simply not true.
We look forward to seeing our students in the classroom on Tuesday morning after the Labor Day Holiday.
Bandland will beat MMS tonight with Mr. Cale to help students try different instruments to see what might best suit them. They will also have some instruments for rent and for sale. 6th Grade Band members are encouraged to attend the event, which is from 5:00 until 7:00.
I would also suggest that if your child would like to be in band but doesn't have it on their schedule to come as well, and for them to send a note with their child in the morning to add band to their schedule.

↘️A Message from Healthy Grandfamilies ↙️
Ladies and Gentlemen,
After much checking around and discussion, we have decided to postpone the live Healthy Grandfamily Sessions until March.
Grandfamilies are helping their grandchildren adjust to being back in school, some are concerned about gathering due to the upswing in COVID cases and some have some other conflicts at this time.
We will continue to meet the information and training needs of the Grandfamilies by phone calls, face to face socially distanced home visits and the Grandparents as Parents Support Group.
In January, we will start recruiting and planning for our Sessions to begin in March.
