October saw Mountaineer Middle School return to some past traditions that we had missed last year due to the pandemic. We were able to bring back our during school football game with rival Washington Irving Middle as a reward for our best students. For the first time ever, the MMS and WIMS 8th grade bands performed the National Anthem prior to the game. Not only did we defeat WI that day, but we were able to retain the "Spirit Stick" for another year due to our larger donation for Breast Cancer Awareness.
We then highlighted October with a visit from WV native Homer Hickam. All students were able to attend a private viewing of October Sky at the Robinson Grand the day before his visit. He was truly inspirational to students and teachers on that day!
Finally, we ended the month with our Annual Pumpkin Drop. Many participants took part in this activity and all were able to watch. That day we also were able to have a local community member come and shoot off a couple of his model rockets. Once again a spectacular sight for all.
