School phones are the only approved means for a parent to contact his or her child during school day. It is INAPPROPRIATE for a parent to text or call his or her child on the child’s cell phone during the school day and students will be subject to discipline if they do.
The office telephone is for emergency use only by a student to contact his or her parent so that lines can be kept open for emergency calls.
Emergency messages will be delivered as soon as possible. Parents/guardians placing calls for their child should indicate if the message is urgent or that an emergency exists.
Per county policy, possession of cellular phones and electronic devices (i.e. games, radios, air pods, etc.) are permitted at Washington Irving Middle School. However, they are to be turned off and stored in the locker. They are not to be seen or heard in any manner during the school day without express permission of an administrator. If you are found USING an unauthorized electronic device, first offense will result in the device being turned in to the office and must be picked up by a parent. A second violation of this rule will result in after school detention as well as parent picking up the device. Additional violations of this rule will result in stricter punishments, including keeping the electronic device for twenty four hours, additional days of ASD, or even suspension. Electronic devices taken for this reason must automatically be picked up by the parent in the office.
Student iPads are issued for educational purposes and are to be used at the discretion of the educator. Student iPads will be supplied to students who complete, with parent signatures, the Harrison County Schools Acceptable Use Policy and the Harrison County Schools Pledge form. Violation of these policies set forth will result in use of the progressive discipline policy in place.
