Bridgeport Middle School

LSIC Meeting Notes – 9/30/24

Those in attendance:

Gary Oldaker

Emilee Yurish

Abby Veigel

Abbey Frenzel

Officer Ash

Henley Hinkle

  • Mr. Oldaker discussed the basics with the first meeting of the year to vote on officers.

Abby Veigel was voted in to take over as chairperson; Emilee Yurish is will serve as the assistant chairperson.

Principal:

  • Our students have their WVGSA scores in their school email accounts.  We’re going to designate next Monday,10/7, time for the AAs to make sure all students can log on to their email and assist them in seeing their scores via the video link sent a couple weeks ago; will also help them save their scores and record them on the goal sheets.

  • The county is in the middle of installing new signs for all codes (green, blue, yellow, red) as they will display what code we are in as well as make announcements; this will be displayed in the gym, cafeteria, and band room. If a code red were to be called, it automatically sends alerts to authorities/emergency responders.

  • There is a new device above the trophy case the can detect if any glass gets broken around the main entrance.

  • Hoping to see a man trap added in near the main entrance and office area within the next year.

Parents:

  • Only concern right now is a lot of parents would like to see the school fundraiser move to another direction - some have talked and feel that simple donations to the school would be easier and we could still make the same amount of money, if not more; people would probably be more willing to donate knowing that 100% of the $$ is going to the school instead of a percentage going to the company; some have complained about the cookie dough orders not being correct and it would be so much easier to just have a link in School Cash Online to donate $$ instead of sending cash or checks to school with their child

Student:

  • no concerns; excited to have a pep rally the end of October (10/28)

Teachers:

  • none in attendance - Mrs. Yurish spoke on their behalf — they just finished gathering up progress reports for any grades D or F and those reports were mailed out to parents mid-September

Service:

  • Officer Ash spoke on behalf of some teachers and parents about the poor parking that takes place every school day in the front parking lot; cars are blocking those that are already parked and prevents anyone from having to get out – this was a big issue for one of our teachers recently – she had a family medical emergency and had to leave suddenly, but she could not back out of her parking space due to all the parked cars waiting in two lines in the lanes of the lot— Officer Ash had to escort her to the location since she could not get out during that emergency.  We discussed the possibility of taking other measures and preventing cars from lining up in the lanes - can we direct this for down the road? Can we only allow cars for dismissal to park in the parking spaces and not the lanes?

Next meeting date: Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 3:00pm in the BMS library
