LSIC Meeting – February 10, 2025 – Secretary Report

Principal - Mrs. Mathews then went through the principal’s report for the meeting: See Attached Principal’s Report
Additions to Principals Report:
1. Dr. Jeremiah Smallridge received the 2024 Jean Singer Award for Distinguished Choral Music in West Virginia.
2. Bridgeport High School has 3 US Presidential Scholar nominees
Community – Supportive of the school, seem to be happy with how the school is being ran
Service – Wood flooring will continue to be updated over the summer, the school security system is continued to be installed and updated throughout the building
Parents – No concerns, students seem to be happy with the school and activities
Arts – Happy with the steam cleaning of the auditorium chairs. Feels supported by school and administration
Teachers – Happy with new door separating bathroom in teachers’ lounge and Community Care Clinic
Update from Subcommittee regarding new tax laws and fundraising: Anna Matheny and Mary Plymale
- Committee has reached out to state tax commissioner for clarification on the new laws regarding the amount of fundraisers as school is allowed to have
- Committee has put together a presentation to show the impact that this new rule has on schools and student groups. This presentation is based on statistics that the committee has gathered over the past few months
- Tax office did return their call, but stated that they would be unable to attend their meeting with them.

Principal’s Report for LSIC- Feb 2024
1. State Champions in Football and Volleyball
2. FFA Ag Sales won states and goes to Nationals
3. Grant Shriver is attending Nationals for Microsoft Certification, article forth coming on Connect with additional students with certifications, we had 8 of the top 10 in the state for Microsoft Certification.
4. We had 6 kids qualify for All State Choir. 2 students qualified for All State Orchestra. 3 students qualified for All State Band
5. We had 21 swimmers qualify for States in Morgantown, Feb 20 and 21.

Additional areas for the future that will be included:
7. Athletic updates: Mr. Sears – Sound system at football field, upgrades to softball field, upgrade to track timing system. Swimming, basketball, and wrestling are nearing the end of the season, getting ready for upcoming Spring sports
8. Music/theatre updates: The Thespian Troupe performs on Feb 15 at Robinson Grand for Regional competition. They will perform for the community on Feb 14 for $5,
9. Curriculum Updates: Mr. Edwards – PEP Planning – parents will come in and sign on 2/24 and 3/28, SAT School Day – 4/9
10. Attendance report- 8/12-10/31 we had 92.69% attendance.
