Bridgeport Conference Center Front

BRIDGEPORT –  Career & Tech Ed students from high schools across Harrison County will be attending the 2nd annual Hospitality Education Event and Competition at Bridgeport Conference Center this coming Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students in the Hospitality & Tourism, Baking & Pastry, and Pro Start Culinary programs from high schools across the county will attend the event sponsored by Charlespointe Hospitality, the owner and manager of Bridgeport Conference Center, Mia Margarita’s, and Microtel. Students will tour all of those businesses and hear about a typical day there.  They will learn about the history of the development of Charles Pointe, then they will work with the event planning staff at Bridgeport Conference Center, and the chefs in the kitchen to learn from those in the industry.

At the end of the day, students will engage in a fun event planning competition where teams will plan for a specific type of event with a theme, and present their event proposals to judges, for prizes.  The goal for the event is to provide work-based learning opportunities and career exploration for our students.  Harrison County Schools is continuing the work to build relationships between our schools and local employers for the benefits and relevance it brings to our career training programs, and the valuable career exploration it brings for our students.

Following the event, students closer to graduation will have the opportunity to sign up to participate in job shadowing or internship activities at Bridgeport Conference Center, Mia Margarita’s, or Microtel, the companies owned by Charlespointe Hospitality.
